Olympisch Zwemstadion; Constructief

The structural part of this building is much related to its architectural designed shape. In the structural program GSA the option "Form Finding" was used to determine the shape of the membrane. This actual shape could be directed by giving certain force density values to the cable net till the demanded shape was found. Afterwards the forces in the cable net showed if this was an intelligent shape or not and the shape was adapted again. The three big bows are made from steel bars and were also modeled in the calculation program. This way, the external structure could be determined as a whole. At the end several external loads were modeled and the structure was adjusted to a realistic architectural and structural design.

The internal part of the building is mainly designed in concrete. The bearing of loads was mostly an easy design. The high ground water level demanded more problems and the first foundations can only be made by expensive under-water concrete or a during construction extra top loading to prevent flooding.
